Chaperones

At any of our clinics you can request that someone else come in with you to act as a chaperone during an examination by the doctor or nurse. The role of a chaperone is to provide support during intimate examinations which, understandably, some people find stressful. Either we can provide a member of staff to act as chaperone or you can bring a friend or relative with you. If you’d like us to provide a member of staff please let us know.

We request that the chaperone accompanies you for the examination only and not for the initial discussion with the doctor or nurse which would cover your sexual history.  This is to allow you the privacy to speak freely and ask any questions you need to.

Interpreters are available for all our services, if necessary. Please call the information line if you would like to request this service, as although this can be managed via our walk in service, the outcomes are often better if planned.
