In too deep?

How do you know if you're in too deep?

Not sure if you need help?

Try our quick quiz

1) Is your drinking or drug use costing you too much money?

2) Are your mates or parents telling you that you're different these days, or that your behaviour has changed?

3) Have you done something you regret while under the influence, and are worried you might do it again next time you use drugs or get drunk?

4) Do you need to do it just to feel 'normal' these days?  Some people say they 'don't feel right' without it.

5) Is it having a bad effect on your relationships with friends, family, or boyfriend / girlfriend?

6) Has anyone told you to get help?

If you answered YES to any of these, it could be a sign that you're becoming dependent on using drugs or alcohol.

For free and confidential advice, you can call KCA Young People's Services on (01227) 456 744, or email yps@kca.org.uk. You can ask them any questions, tell them how you're feeling, and they can help you work things out.

What happens if I call this number?

You'll get through to KCA Young People's Services, a team of friendly people who work with under 18s around drug and alcohol issues. They're the experts, and can give you straight advice, information, and help if you want it. They won't judge or force you into anything, and they don't have to tell your parents or the police. You can talk to them over the phone, or arrange to meet somewhere you feel comfortable - it doesn't have to be at the centre, or at school. Just somewhere you feel happy talking.

Contacting this number doesn't mean you're a junkie or an alcoholic. Lots of people get in touch just to get some advice and check out their options.

How can you help?

Lots of young people feel that they haven't got anyone to talk to about their drinking or drug use. This is a chance to talk privately to someone who won't be shocked or judge you, and who will have heaps of experience about drug and alcohol issues. If you want help cutting down or quitting, they can help you do this - but no one will force you to do this.
