Worried about a mate?

If someone you know is experimenting or taking risks with drugs or alcohol, there are several things you can do to help:

  • Go somewhere private, and talk to your mate calmly. Don't overreact; just let them know you're worried and want to help.

  • Don't assume they're taking drugs until you know for sure - not all rumours are true.

  • Let your friend know that they can trust you, and that you're there for them - especially if they're not ready to talk right now.

  • Give your friend the 24/ 7 phone number for FRANK (0800 77 66 00) or suggest they get in touch with KCA (see below)

  • Call on the experts: KCA Young People's Services give advice and help to under 18s in Kent about drugs and alcohol. You can speak to them in confidence, or arrange to meet a worker somewhere private.  You can ask them questions, tell them what's on your mind, and get help from them - all for free, all in confidence. Just call (01227) 456 744 or email yps@kca.org.uk

Don't gossip about it to other people: if you're really worried, share your concerns with an adult you trust.
