Here are some previously asked questions from young people worried about Confidential Issues.
Question
I am 13 and sexually active, and I was thinking about coming into one of the clinics but my parents don’t know, would you have to tell them?
Answer
It would be a very good idea to come and talk to someone in a clinic. This is a confidential service and this means the clinic will not tell anyone about your visit unless they are concerned that someone is hurting or harming you. Even though you are quite young and sex is illegal at your age, the law does not set out to make criminals of young people, but is there to protect them from harm. If you discuss forms of contraception and want something like the pill, the Doctor or Nurse who sees you will need to be sure that you have understanding about what you are doing and how to use the contraception properly. They will also talk to you about whether you are really ready for this type of relationship at your age and have thought through the consequences of how you would handle things if they went wrong.
